Heralds of Galactu-er, Feminist Interpretations of Nerdery [Mar. 15th, 2007|01:06 am]

I'm currently writing a paper on the theme of adversity faced by strong female characters, especially protagonists and those who fit the "ballbuster" archetype in various media (by both men and women).

My genres of choice: literature and the typically male-dominated science fiction genre and comic book medium. I plan to cite such sources as James Tiptree Jr. and Y The Last Man as well as Bitch magazine. The authors I plan to cite are Sandra Cisneros, Toni Morrison and Dorothy Allison.

Can anyone suggest a few good feminist comics/science fiction, anyway?

Dear Ass-wipe,

I posted you on http://www.womansavers.com for all the world to see how you cheated on me and hurt me emotionally and physically. I pray that you will never hurt another but I know because you are good looking and charming, another prey will fall trap in your web of lies.

Someday a greater power will judge you but until that time I will let the world know my story.

need suggestions for a tech history [Jan. 4th, 2007|10:54 am]
Hi all,

This is Jaymi from Girlistic. I'm working on writing the "Brief Herstory Of..." section of Girlistic Magazine's next issue, which is themed on feminism and technology.

I'm hoping to get some suggestions of physical items that have gone through technological advances that would be interesting to know the herstory of...things that are for women or used mainly by women.

I have a few in mind, but would like to get more ideas!

Feminism Causes PTSD, Apparently [Oct. 20th, 2006|09:55 pm]

[Current Location |Bessemer, Alabama]
[Current Mood |enragedenraged]
[Current Music |Ani diFranco, "Hello, Birmingham"]

Okay, I'm on a Yahoo group for complex post-traumatic stress disorder (C-PTSD). There's this one guy on the group who has a habit of blaming everyone else for victimizing him and keeping him from getting better. He sent a post to the group about how feminists (inter multa alia) caused his PTSD and how his current wife is keeping him from recovering.

The thread just went downhill from there.Collapse )
